I have a couple of old Gillette cases that looks pretty nice on the outside, but somewhat seedy on the inside. Any suggestions on what times of easy to apply materials are out there to do a restore? Thanks!
Good question. I have a couple of cases myself in need of interior restore. I was thinking about going to an automotive interior shop in town and asking them to re-line the inside and perhaps stitch Gillette and the razor type into the cloth. Will keep you in mind when I am done.
Any follow-up on this? Just did a search on "case restore" and this is about the only thread out there... Seems like there should be some interest/guidance with all the resoureces of B&B.
On occasion the case is leather on the outside and I can assure you there is nothing better for old leather than Lexol. I have restored many old brittle camera cases and the stuff is magic.
For the outside an gentle cleaning with very dilute Dawn dishwashing soap, rinse gently and dry. Then a good leather conditioner, gentle buff. If the velvet is intact inside I have used a small brush for rough out leather shoes gently, a small brush attachment for a vacuum (like you use on keyboards etc.), or that sticky tape on a roll for taking off lint-peel off some and use a daubing action-works surprisingly well.
