Gillette adjustable question.

I just received a nice slim adjustable, and I'm wondering if it's a good idea to set the adjustment level prior to closing the bay doors. Seems like it puts a bit of strain on the internals going up and down the dial with them closed.

Or are these guys built so stoutly, there's nothing to really worry about?

The conservative approach states adjusting with the doors open, but some adjust with total abandon.

It's important to have the bay doors open when changing the adjustment dial (just slightly open is good enough). Moving the adjustment with the doors closed stresses some internal component.

I actually had no idea it was recommended to adjust with the doors open or at least with pressure relieved. It makes sense now that someone says it, but I figured these things were made to be adjusted while shaving, which occurs with the doors closed, so assumed it was just made to be used that way.

I shall, from now on, adjust with my doors open. Gosh, I hope my neighbors don't object.

I do not think Gillette included the "adjust when open" disclaimer, but in those days you could walk to the corner drug store and pick up an adjustable and a cherry coke with pocket change. "Remove resistance before adjusting" is a more current day philosophy.
