Getting the musty smell out of a case.

I just had a Damaskeene arrive yesterday and the case for it has a very strong musty smell to it. Anyone have any advice on how to get rid of the odor?

Hmm, maybe I'll try both. That is if the sun ever comes out long enough between the snow storms.

Problem is a lot of the best solutions can destroy delicate cases - including sunshine if the case has fabric and is old. I find leaving it out and open is the least likely to cause damage but takes a long time. It's kind of like taking something out of a smoker's house. Just leave it out, opened up and the smell eventually dissipates.

I've had luck with baking soda. I put some baking soda in a dish next to the case and seal them both in a ziploc/tupperware container. The smell is usually gone after a few days.

Dryer sheets used in the same manner can work too.

The smell is a form of the deadly black mold and can have serious health risks.
First take the case and razor wrap it in newspaper.
Second place it in a box.
Third take it to the closest Post Office and mail it to me I will take one for the team and dispose of it so no one gets hurt.
Or it could just be nothing and do what gearchow recommends.

I got the bad smell off in one of my wooden shaving cases with vinegar. After three times of cleaning with neat vinegar the bad smell was gone. The smell of vinegar was gone after a few days.

Probably that will help...
