Getting set for replating...

I was wondering if anybody here could send me in the right direction. I would like to get into this, and do this as a hobby. Is there anybody here who could send me in the right direction, and maybe throw me a few pointers?

There's more involved than just plating. The razor has to be refinished before it can be re-plated.I have thousands of dollars worth of jewelry making equipment,a fully equipped shop and an apprentice. At $30.to $40.per razor there is no money to be made.I only do it because I like to see the wonderful little masterpieces returned to their original beauty.

Absolutely!

And some of the chemicals involved in stripping and plating are pretty nasty too.

If you do want to give it a try, a kit from Caswell will be a good starter. But as Buddydog states, you will need equipment to strip and polish a razor before you even think about plating.

To get even reasonable results you'll also need to agitate the solution during plating and a proper adjustable power supply is essential (these are expensive).

Always wear gloves, protect your eyes, don't let nickel solution and other chemicals get on your skin and practise on something you are prepared to ruin before you try on a good razor.

I don't mean to put you off, if it's something you really want to try, go for it.
