Gem G VS EJDE89vs R41

Guys,
Just won an auction for a Gem Heavy Flat Top razor and waiting for it to be shipped.

I know this is one of the more "mild" single edge razors out there and wanted to see how it will compare to my Edwin Jagger DE89 as well as my Muhle R41.
Any and all answers are appreciated.

If it is too mild for me it still will be great to display as I personally think it is the best looking razors (SE or DE) out there.

Everyone's face and techique is different, but I predict you will find the Gem Heavy Flat Top to be way milder than the R41 and slightly milder than the DE 89. Only you can give the definitive answer.

The G bar will give you a good shave, it may even give you a shave as good as the Open Comb MicroMatic or the Clog-pruf MicroMatic - but, and this is a big But - it will take you longer to achieve those results and you will have to rinse the razor out more often.

I have all three razors, and I would say the Muhle is the most effective of the three, with the EJ and G bar being comparable in terms of how long it would take to shave, and how effective they are.

i use a Gem micromatic single edge razor and switch off with my EJde89L.....i do like them both and think they both shave similarly. since the edwin jagger is prettier with its new chrome, i do prefer it...and the blades are cheaper for the double edge too. i buy and sell lots of razors until i found ones i liked....and the EJde89L and Micromatic made the "keeper" pile.

The GEM Heavyweight FlatTop ( G-Bar) may hold it's own with a good DE razor,however.....In my opinion,to fully appreciate the advantages of single edge blades try shaving with an Open Comb Micromatic or (my preference) a pre-Micromatic GEM or EverReady.

G-Bar is a great razor that you can always get easy and very good results with. OCMM is my pick if I had to get my shave as close as possible, but G-Bar is a far better everyday solution.

Got in my first shave with the "G" the other night.

Used my Golden Nib 22mm Finest with Cella and loaded up a Gem SS blade.

I was having a little issue with angle even though I had watched the videos on youtube-it was a different angle then I was used to with my R41.

I had a couple weepers and was a little raw especially on my cheeks after several passes which was unusual as it's normally my neck that has the issues.
I will give it another try later in the week.

If you're new to SEs the angle can take a little bit of practice to get the hang of, but once you get it the shaves can be quite good. I'm still pretty new myself and it took me a couple weeks before I was getting consistent results. Another thing I've found is the stainless steel blades can be a bit harsh the first 2-3 shaves.
