G-bar

I've been away from home for a little while, and I bought this on eBay while I was away.

Now I'm back I've had a look at it, and it's really nice - it doesn't look like it's been used very much, and I love the original 7/6 price tag. (That's old UK money for those who don't recognize it - seven shillings and six pence, or 37.5p, about 60 cents.)

I haven't used it yet, but if feels solid and weighty - I'm looking forward to giving it a go.

Very nice set! The name "G-bar" is a nickname someone on a shaving board came up with because there is a G on the handle. You have the much rarer Ever-Ready version of the razor, there should be an E on the handle, so I guess technically yours would be an E-bar if you want to stick with the nickname.

I really like the feel of the handle on these, but they're just a bit too mild for me.

That's interesting - I've looked at some pictures now, and I see the "G" in the circle on the handle. But mine has nothing there - no letter at all.

You must own a "Blank Bar." I rarely have seen one in the case so nice score on that. The "G-Bar" is the Tech Razor of the SE world. Safe, easy to use, attractive but as my friend Tom mentioned, it's milder that some of us like. Good SE starter razor for newbies.

Yes, a definite very nice start into SE shaving, especially being an EverReady. After a few shaves it'll be time to try a Valet AutoStrop!

I also have an Ever Ready version of the G bar, for some reason I find razors with guard bars, whether its SE or DE harder to use. I think its to do with finding the angle.
So I've only used it once. but its something else to have in the collection.

Thanks folks. I do actually have a few SE razors already, and I also prefer something more aggressive - I love my OCMM. But I like to try all sorts, and I know the G-bar is a classic - and my <blank>-bar looked too nice to resist :biggrin1:

I'll use it for my next shave and will let you all know what I think.

I just used the Ever Ready <>-bar for the first time today, and it's a really good shaver.

It's relatively mild compared to some SEs, but it's not as mild as I'd expected from the various comments here - it's certainly more aggressive than a Tech, for example, but I guess that might be partly a reflection of the SE blade action.

Anyway, I lathered up with MWF using the new Semogue LE 2012 (which is a wonderful brush), and I got a very nice 3-pass DFS with no discomfort, and with that great SE sound. Finished with a generous splash of The Veg, and I'm feeling nicely pampered :thumbup1:

And the balance in the hand is excellent - this one's a winner.

Nice find! I am also a huge fan of everything EverReady. I think I may have to keep my eyes peeled for one of these. So, thanks for feeding my insanity. :)
