Futur Razor - Great Device

I recently purchased a Futur razor and am very pleased with the handling and performance of the machine. It is a well balanced and a great shaver.

I have been using a Merkur 38C barber pole for the past year or so and I have tried a barber pole slant which I gave up.

I would recommend the Futur to anyone seeking to advance the DE progression. The clip on top is nothing to be concerned about after using it a few blade changes.

Currently using a red personna and will start using a 7'Oclock blade later or maybe a KAI or Feather.

:thumbup:I agree, My Futur is one of my two favorites. I use an IP. The feather didn't work with the Futur for me. My other favorite is the 37g, (slant) with a feather. I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of a sledgehammer which has been graciously loaned to me by another member, bb557, Brent via The B&B Razor Lending Consortium.

I got my satin Futur a few weeks ago ... I can't believe how well it balances in my hand and just seems to float into the right position on my face.

I'm still experimenting with the blades and adjustments ... Haven't quite found the optimum yet, but I'm having fun trying.

I wish Merkur would make fixed-head razors (especially a Slant) with a handle like the Futur ... the heftiness and balance are the best I've found yet.

Does anyone know how to lubricate the adjustment mechanism? I gave mine a soak in isopropyl alcohol when I first got it, and it seems to be a little stiff now.

I feel I should chime in as well.

So many people seem to either love or hate this machine, but me personally, I think it's an incredible shaver. I've yet to get more of a DFS with any other instrument. It is a little bulky, but I've figured out how to get around with it.

It is a very good quality adjustable.

I love my Futur currently when it comes up in rotation I use derbys with it.

I LOVE derby's in my Futur! I bought two sleeves of 100 blades for $18 just for my futur. I have a sledgehammer that should be here Friday, and I have a wide assortment of blades to run through it and I cant wait to start.

Agreed with everyone. The Futur is a fantastic razor! Used it this morning actually!!

Usually keep it set on 3½.

I just bought one 2 months ago and it hasn't had a day off since. I need to give it a rest, but I like it too much.

The futur was my first DE razor.

I used it all the way up to setting 4 and realised that my best most BBS shaves were on 1 with a feather.

The clip is nothing to worry about unless you try to take it off from the end without a thumb notch!

From reading this thread it seems the Futur is a much better bet than the Vision. Im going to take a look at one in my shaving shop this weekend. How strong is the 'clip' that holds the blade in position?

VERY, I've had mine long enough that the two pins that snap into the wires have the satin finish worn off, brass under it or something thats gold looking, but holds the blade perfect every time

In the review section on the Futur, I can't remember what page but out of the blue some one tells you how to lube it, and does so in detail!

I also have had my satin Futur in rotation since I received it in February. For me, the blade angle is automatic and I get a BBS shave every time. I have tried a SE GEM, Gillette Slim Adjustable, a Schick injector, and a Merkur slant for a few weeks at a time, but I have to re-learn the angle to hold the razor and the shave is never as good.

I could spend a few more weeks working on my technique, but why? I just go back to the Futur and everything is smooth and easy.

The Futur is my favorite for a practical shaver. I really like the elegance of my EJ Chatsworth, but truthfully, the Futur gives a better shave.
Since the demise of the "Swedish Gillette" I like the Super Iridum blade in mine, set on about 3.5 .
The top clip is very well designed and built. If you can operate a seatbelt, you can change blades easily in your Futur.

I like the Futur also, an excellent shave every time. But I was just a little careless this morning and it rewarded me with a 5mm long gash in the middle of my chin. 1st time in over a year of D/E shaving. It was operator error and too high of a setting, but overall an great razor
