I am about to have to start flying for my job a bunch more in the very near future. I have not flown for several years, and am a little behind on the current no-fly list. I use DE and straight razors, but know I can't get blades onto a plane. I will always have a good heads-up prior to my trips, so I am considering mailing my blades to myself at the hotel. Any other ideas? What other problems am I overlooking? Shave soap shouldn't be a carry-on problem, is it?

If you check bags it is not an issue. Otherwise mail the blades or buy them. I understand cartridge razors with a blade are ok also.
I don't think their are any issues with a puck of soap.
I take a travel size tube of Proraso when I travel. Traveling with soap can me messy
If you have time mailing a blade is a good thing. Of course, if you are checking a bag that's the best.
When I fly I take a Tech razor. I take it apart and put it in a plastic soap travel dish along with my brush. It doesn't look like a razor on X-Ray that way.
I have flown with my Cella many times, no issues. But - with all the changes just brought in...I would say that might not be wise anymore. I take a tube of AOS shave cream these days...it's the right size for the 1 quart baggie.

Nope, fill me in on the 1 qt baggie!
I haven't had to fly since starting this whole wet shaving thing, but if had to I'd bring along my TracII. Almost like a DE, but also the convenience of a cart razor. You loose it, get another handle on eBay for less than $5. Guaranteed no hassles this way when going through security.
How? Get a soap container. Creams can spill out and be liquidy. Soap is solid. Better yet, get a shave stick. Some vendors have them in a deodorant style tube. Other brands put in a medicine bottle.
Nothing over 3 ounces. Maybe 3.4, I forget. All your toilitries must be in a ziploc style baggie and out of your check on bag.
Check a bag. If you are flying for work, any bag check fee is reimbursable.
Southwest doesn't even have them.
It's nice to kick back in the hotel room with some comforts of home, change of clothes, slippers and a nice portable shave den.
The oversized carryon baggage has gotten to be such a hassle that there is already 1 airline (with others sure to follow) that are now charging $45 bucks for carry on luggage.
It so nutty that they are even considering having the TSA regulate the size of carry on bags allowed through security.

+1 on having your shave gear with you. I am gone 2 weeks out of each month so I have a set up at home (usually my high end stuff) and a set up at work (usually ebay straights) I also have a Coticule at work which gives me something to practice my honing on while away. It's those little things like wet shaving that makes it bareable to be away from home.
If things get tight a shave stick works great. Takes up very little room, is light, and works fine.
