This isn't a huge thing, but it's really gotten under my skin. There's a seller on eBay who keeps listing 1949 Super Speeds. I'm pretty sure you can't tell a '48, '49 or '50 SS apart unless you have the original plastic box it came in. I've been told that the '49 came in a box with a red bottom. Now this guy is selling his so-called '49s with no box. I've asked him how he knows it's a '49 and he actually said "When you've been collecting Gillettes as long as I have you can just tell". I asked him how he could tell and got no reply. I've watched this guy sell a couple of these "1949s" for thirty dollars or more. That's about $10 more than '48-'50 SSs usually sell for so this ploy is working pretty well for this guy, though I'm not sure why. Anyway, I'm seriously considering reporting this to eBay. What do other B&B members think; both of this practice and whether or not I should say anything to eBay?
