Fraud on eBay?

This isn't a huge thing, but it's really gotten under my skin. There's a seller on eBay who keeps listing 1949 Super Speeds. I'm pretty sure you can't tell a '48, '49 or '50 SS apart unless you have the original plastic box it came in. I've been told that the '49 came in a box with a red bottom. Now this guy is selling his so-called '49s with no box. I've asked him how he knows it's a '49 and he actually said "When you've been collecting Gillettes as long as I have you can just tell". I asked him how he could tell and got no reply. I've watched this guy sell a couple of these "1949s" for thirty dollars or more. That's about $10 more than '48-'50 SSs usually sell for so this ploy is working pretty well for this guy, though I'm not sure why. Anyway, I'm seriously considering reporting this to eBay. What do other B&B members think; both of this practice and whether or not I should say anything to eBay?

Heavens to Murgatroyd! An unscrupulous seller on the bay. I do like the fact that he "can just tell." Personally I wouldn't report him. You may feel differently.

Depending on condition, $30 doesn't seem out of line for eBay. I have seen worse examples of "fraud" on eBay. I don't know what advantage is gained by listing it as specifically a 1949 razor, but as long as the razor is in great condition, I don't see a big problem. But that is just me.

If the seller that you are referring to is 'gillette-safety-razors', you probably are now banned from bidding on his auctions.

You know, it could be a '49, even if he can't tell for sure. Hard to claim fraud.

Well, I'm pretty sure this isn't on the level, but I'll bow to the advice of cooler heads and take this no further.

I've seen lots of similar instances where something was slightly mislabled mostly due to ignorance of the seller combined with their arrogance that they are some kind of expert. In those instances, I just softly chuckle and find satisfaction in knowing that I'm correct.

LOL. Of all the sellers on ebay, I managed to hook up with a couple of the most notorious for my first three Gillettes. Thanks to B&B, I've learned to properly manage my RAD, and my average $$/razor averages less than $10 since.
