Frank shaving finest badger. custom?

Ever since I gave up on the boar experiment I was wanting to pick up another badger brush without spending a bunch. I was toying with the idea of 'designing my own' with a TGN knot or one of the other mix n match vendors but saw on a few posts where Ian (Yan) who sells Frank Shaving on eBay will do some custom work if you request it.

So after comparing to my EJ Best Badger (medium) I decided on this one and had him trim it to 50 mm loft, extra stuff it, and pick the lightest (whitest) hairs in finest badger he could. I'm pretty happy with it. I haven't used it enough to break it in yet or for it to really bloom but so far I'm enjoying it. It lathers just as good if not better than my EJ BB and has softer tips without being too floppy. Only thing I'm not sure of yet is the handle is quite heavy. My wrist was actually getting sore after bowl lathering a few times to help break it in!

Nice brush. You did a good job customizing your order. I was thinking about Frank Shaving brushes. I'm afraid I will develop SBAD. I haven't ventured to the pure or best/silvertip grades yet.

Great looking brush! Why don't you start face-lathering which would reduce the soreness in the wrist and massage the face? Good luck.

I have a Frank Shaving Finest (standard, not customised) in the same metal-bottom handle. The weight/balance did feel strange at first, and it's still very different to my other brushes, but now I'm used to it I'm happy with it. And it's an excellent performer for the price.

Did you measure the loft you got? I am just curious as I have heard good and bad about custom orders being correct, and was thinking about getting one. Either way it is a great looking brush and if you are happy that is all that counts.

I have a couple of FS brushes in finest and a synth. All three are excellent brushes. The synth was a custom as was my first, a tiny 19mm finest traveler with a Duke style handle. No problems with any of them. Erm.....in fact my FS with the chubby handle in faux horn HAS YET TO SHED A SINGLE HAIR. Sorry couldnt help my self.

So you're saying that your brush shedded fewer hairs than the number of owners of FS that B&B shedded from this site.
Sorry couldnt help my self, either.

Better than that. The 26mm chubby tubby I bought in finest has been in the rotation since May. It gets used at least every other day with both cream and soaps. I face lather so possibly a bit more aggression than with the bowl. The brush has not shed a single hair, where as my Duke 2 in best lets one go on every ocassion. For the £27 I paid it's been worth evey penny. I may just have gotten a good brush that works for me.

I have two. The silvertip has been a great brush. The other is a combo of badger and boar. It is nice to look at, but it has neither the characteristics of a good badger nor the characteristics of a good boar. The combination is disappointing...neither fish nor fowl; neither man nor beast...etc. I wouldn't recommend a mixed hair brush to anyone...but YMMV as always.
