Frank Shaving Chubby

Anyone ever tried one of these? I like the style of the chubby brushes, but i don't feel comfortable spending the amount of money on a simpson etc.

Not my pictures, they go to IanTang.

I have a Frank Shaving synthetic and a Vintage Blades 2-band that looks like it's made by Frank. Both are great quality and quite dense. Some people have had issues with them, though, and I'm sure that they will be along and tell you their impressions. I will say this, though: you can be sure that Simpson would exact their pound of flesh from you if you wanted a Chubby Two Band Manchurian (which is what that Frank Chubby looks to be an analogue of). And the price would be 8 times higher than that Frank goes for. But would it be 8 times better?

Hmmm good question. Personally I don't think it would be 8x better. Ack I dunno.
It will behave differently since the loft is higher (54vs50) than a Chubby 2. Personally, for $44, it's worth a shot in my opinion because you can't get 2-band hair and a knot that large for any cheaper than that.

I had one, but found it way to floppy for me. The loft was set to high at 55mm with a 26mm knot. If it were set at 50mm, it would have been a great brush. You could ask to see if they could set it at 50mm for you.
With the exception of that, the hair was fantastically soft!

I have an extra-dense 26mm Manchurian set at 50mm (measures 52mm) and it is a nice brush. VERY soft, bordering on floppy, but absolutely wonderful on the face!:thumbup1: Very nice quality, shed a couple hairs, but only 52$ shipped to Canada. I would recommend them.

ironfist, not only did I get one in January of 2012 and had the knot set lower at 50mm I was so impressed that I had the same style made with a synth knot aswell. The brush for me has been superb. I just had the standard finest badger but as I say a 26mm knot set at 50mm. It's yet to shed a single hair and the synth is in the weekly rotation aswell. It was a lttle cheaper last year but is still a great brush for the money IMHO to the shores of the UK. Plus you get the stand aswell.

I have one as well, 26mm chubby, fake horn (1st pic). I like it. I also have a whipped dog 24mm pure black badger which I also like. I like them all :-D

the chubby actually feels cheaper than the WD. Its lighter. However its also much smoother on the face. I imagine quite close to silvertip (I have the finest). I think its an ok deal for the price, however if I had to do it again I might go with a silvertip from WD, with the knot set deeper.

So, tough call, but I still used mine yesterday and can't complain, it brushes like a brush! ;)
