Simple rule of thumb on old products...
Does it have a barcode?
Some early vintage formula will have a barcode but that is a cut of date for product age and a simple one to remember when looking at anything in a package.
Now for expensive items, there are always going to be fakers who will put out packaging without a barcode just to fool and take advantage of a trend/fad
