For Travel - Fusion or Atra?

Hello,

I just wanted some feedback; which would you use for travel Fusion or Atra?
Don't really want to bring DE with me.
I will be bringing brush and palmolive stick.
I just found a pack of 15 blades for $2.99 for the Atra.

Thanks for you input.

Another +1 for the Sensor, but with the regular blades, not the Excel ones. You can find blades on the bay for about $1/cartridge (genuine Gillette not knockoffs). If price is the main concern, that deal on Atra cannot be beat.

I carry a Fusion when I travel. I use it to shave both my face and my head daily, which it does quickly and easily and well. One blade lasts for roughly 30 shaves, though I have to admit that I haven't actually kept track. I just know that I have to replace blades so rarely that cost isn't a consideration.

Are you serious? I don't think I have every gotten 30 shaves from a Fusion.
Thanks for the all the feedback, going to bring them both. :)

30 shaves?
I've never used a fusion, I got 4-5 shaves out of a M3, and it seems many others who got the same out of an M3 got ~7-9 shaves out of a fusion.
If I got 30 shaves, all great DFS, no ingrowns, irritation or cuts, I probably wouldn't be here!
Then again the fusion looks and feels like a toy and real safety razors sure look and feel great to hold :001_huh:

Get an Atra or Trac 2, the Fusion is a scam.

+1

Five blades are fully unnecessary, and just a ploy by Gillette to rake you over the coals on pricing.

I don't think the Fusion is at all superior to the two bladed cartridge razors that came before it. The Trac II, Atra, and Sensor were all great cartridge razors.

Blades for all three are still readily available, and good quality but low cost options are available for bot the Trac II, and Atra.

I was wondering, have you looked at the Merkur travel DE razors? They have them in both safety bar and open comb. Talk about a small package, no pun intended, these razors break down and fit into a very small leather pouch that's only about 2 inches. I have both and take them whenever I travel, that way I don't have to do without a great shaving DE. You can even put a few extra DE blades inside the leather pouch. :thumbup1:

I usually pack either a Trac II, a Sensor, or a Mach 3. If the choice is between the Atra and the Fusion, and you're planning to travel carry-on only, I'd go with the Atra.

If you're checking luggage and not planning to carry anything on, why not check a DE and some blades? There wouldn't be any additional hassle involved on your part.

I'm guessing the OP is trying to avoid the whole DE blades/airplanes/TSA issues.

The Atra buy a country mile.

Not even remotely close.

Atra is a nice razor. The current Gillette-branded cartridges for Atra (made in China) are really nice blades; smooth from the get-go.

I usually throw a handful of these in my luggage, along with a tube of shaving cream and a Van der Hagen brush.

I don't care if they get broken, stolen, confiscated, etc.
