I am interested to see how high or low it ranks!
Ooh interesting. What razors do you have that score higher ?Mine is quite high in the rankings. Partly because it was gifted to me by my long time friend from the USA.
The heft is why i prefer it over the regular SS which in itself is already a good razor.
So, an 8/10
That's rough! It's crazy how much variation there is. What's number 1?I use my RedTip for a change of pace, but mostly just for display and nostalgia…..I would rank my shaves as 7th out of the 7 razors I currently have.
Interesting. I am going from an AS-D2 to a red tip, when it arrives. I actually stopped using a DE razor for a couple of years because of how bad my shaves were with it. Then I read a thread on this site and it motivated me to learn it. My lather and technique got way better, and I finally got a brilliant shave with it. I was so happy, but it takes way too much effort and time for me. It was 5 times the effort of the first razor I used, it some Edwin jagger starter job. I appreciate the feather now, but it just doesn't catch some hairs on my face first time, no matter the technique.Way up high. When I first got it I had a hard time. It seemed harsh, horrible ATG.
But then with a few adjustments it clicked.
It’s a wonderful shaver, heavier than your typical SS, not aggressive as some may think and a beauty to look at.
Gillette New, New improved, Gillette Old Single ring, 7 O'clock razor, Muhle Rocca, EJ 3one6.Ooh interesting. What razors do you have that score higher ?
Not that much variation considering the other six razors I have are all tied for 1st.That's rough! It's crazy how much variation there is. What's number 1?
I do wonder if misalignments and improper blade gap distance in older razors would help explain the huge variation people have in their experience of them. Like you have 50 razors! And I'm sure some of them would be far more aggressive than the red tip.I have probably 50 razors and the red tip is among my least favorite. I just found it to be harsh and easily gives me razor burn.
Or angle. The moment I switched to a shallower angle the razor changed completely.I do wonder if misalignments and improper blade gap distance in older razors would help explain the huge variation people have in their experience of them. I was planning on sending my red tip to him, all the way from Ireland! But I think I'll test out some more vintage razors first... see what I like. That's probably a grail razor for a lot of people!I’ve tried a few USA red tips. Didnt seem like a smooth shaver for me. I rarely reach for them unless I read something here and decide to do some kind of comparison. It’s a shame because I’m lucky enough to have gotten a deal on one done by backroadsgold in rhodium.
Now the England red tip rocket, that’s a different story. Its not a regular in my rotation but it’s a very effective razor.
Most of my other safety bar TTO Gillettes and post war techs get more action than the USA red tips. Aside from the flair tip superspeeds which aren’t as efficient compared to some of the older heavy hitters/adjustables.
Yeah, try shaving with an AS-D2 without adjusting your shaving angle and it's gonna be a nightmare.Or angle. The moment I switched to a shallower angle the razor changed completely.
