What's new

For the Historians

I have a question on where the various vintage Gillettes were sold. I can guess that the average Superspeed was sold in the corner drug store but what of the Aristocrats, Executives and Presidents? Were they special order? Were they sold in higher end stores? I would be curious to see the pricing lists if they are available.

Interesting question. To add: I wonder if drug stores of yore were held in higher regard. Not that the CVS clerks of today don't inspire me with their deep knowledge of product and change-making ability.

They were. In my town a Drugstore 101 years old just closed, driven out of business by CVS. I don't need to tell the people of this board my feelings about that. I despise Walmart, CVS and it's ilk.

See this website: http://www.mr-razor.com/. It contains price lists of some razors as well as advertisements. An Aristocrat in 1935, for example, sold for $4.00, and this included leather case and 10 blades. From what I can gather from the ads, razors were probably sold in neighborhood drugstores and department stores.
