What's new

For the Astra lovers

A while ago I got a sampler pack from amazon a while ago and decided that I liked the Astra Superior Platinums the best. So I decided to buy a 100 pack. As soon as I opened up the new blade I noticed that the print on it was noticeably thicker than the blades from the sampler pack. Take a look at the pictures and let me know if this looks normal. The blade on top is the old blade from the sampler. I bought the blades from a reputable seller on amazon. I'm just curious as to why there is a difference.
I also included a pic of the packaging of the new blades ( sorry, no pic of the packaging of the old ones, but it was cardboard).

I'm curious about this as well. I bought 7Yellows from WCS and Amazon that showed up in the yellow paper wrapper with branding and proper box. I just received some 7Yellows from razordirect that showed up in the same box but the blades were wrapped in the parchment paper material with no branding. Not sure if it is a difference in blades.

Manufacturers are always improving the machining to get more speed out of production and replacing old machines as they start to require more maintenance. What you are seeing might just be a new silk screen machine that has gone on line. I am sure that they run more than one so for a while you will see a mix of different screening until all of the rest get replaced.

I doubt that it is little more than that.

I had the same experience - I loved the Astras so much I ordered 100. I was a little nervous when they came and looked different - So I shaved with one for a few days and guess what- they are the same! I also attribute the change to usual production line updates.

Thanks guys. With so much stuff being counterfeited these days I wasn't sure. I do believe I will toss one in the razor tonight and see what happens.

so wait the blades have no marking on them at all or the paper they are wrapped in??? i was about to order some and want to check on this. thanks

I have friends working in the Fed branch against counterfeit import goods. When I first knew these guys I was amazed at what people will try to counterfeit. I mean... why? So with today's technology it wouldn't surprise me if they were counterfeit. Hell, how would one know unless he's had so many shaves using Astras that he could tell the difference instantly....but I doubt that. Only way is to buy from reputable dealers or somehow check with Astra on certified dealers. Oh, I forgot to say that my Astras (100 pack) have so far all looked the same and the writing hasn't been that big on them.

Yes, the 100 Astra's I bought look the same way, and they shave fantastically. However I now have an even bigger problem. I spent $400 on an antique Kent brush and it smells like a wet goat. I think I may have received an used goat hair mop instead of an antique Kent brush.

Splat, PM me with the phone number for one of your buddies with the Feds.....I'm hotter than heck and loaded for goat now. :a21:
