Floyd Mayweather v. Robert Guererro

Saw this fight was just announced. My thoughts: Guererro is tough, but he's no Floyd Mayweather. BUT, Mayweather hasn't been in the ring in a long time.

IF Mayweather is in shape, I think he would beat Guererro. But if Mayweather isn't prepped adequately and is too out of condition from his hiatus, Guererro might slip in and win.

Guererro will show up to fight. The only question in my mind is what kind of condition Mayweather will be in.

i'm picking floyd on this one. i'm sure he will be ready.

i don't think "the ghost" will be the one to dethrone mayweather.

he fought cotto, i don't blame him for not fighting margarito though. the guy is a cheat.

i honestly thoght for years that paqcuiao was the man to beat him, but after the 3rd marquez fight i wasn't so sure anymore. If they fight, i think mayweather will beat him convincingly.

that fight has lost most of it's luster imo.

Guerrero's greatest attribute is his heart and chin, but Mayweather will out point him all night. He always shows up in shape and historically has been a fanatic about his training. Try as I might, I don't see a scenario in which Floyd loses. Will root for the ghost, but wouldn't put money on him.

+1. I'd rather see the new and improved Marquez Version 3.0 fight Mayweather again than Pacquiao fight him.

I think Pacquiao is just distracted by his political duties. If he recommitted to boxing, he would be right back in there. I want to see Mayweather fight either one of those guys personally.

He's been ducking Pacquiao for years. Ducked Cotta forever, ducked Margarito forever....

I might be wrong (correct me if I am) but I think it was Pacquiao who wouldn't concede to drug testing in a potential Mayweather fight. I wouldn't call that Mayweather ducking. Nonito Donaire is blazing a new trail and essentially forcing anyone he fights to submit to VADA testing to fight. PEDs are playing too big of a role in boxing and I was really turned off on Pacquiao after that Mayweather fight fell through.

That's true, but I am 100% convinced that Mayweather's camp dug to find an issue Pacquiao wouldn't concede on just to avoid the fight.

I used to agree with this, but no longer. We now know that up until Manny's recent religious commitment, he was running around and "partying" and his wife was ready to leave. That was not well known at the time the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight was scheduled. It wouldn't surprise me that while Manny was not taking steroids or steroid like growth hormones (no reason to believe he was), he might very well have been using other drugs. Hence his reluctance. I knew someone on the periphery of the negotiation at the time and he claims that the Mayweather camp wanted this fight. That very well may be crap, but in retrospect, it all makes sense.

I also don't think Mayweather ever believed he could be beaten by anyone. What he is, regardless of what you think of his boxing skills, is one of the best businessmen amongst our current crop of boxers. He thinks two, three, four fights ahead in order to calculate the best payday for each match. I think that has nearly everything to do with the fights he takes and the ones he doesn't. Floyd hasn't really ducked anyone at all; he's just made them wait.

Mayweather is running out of opponents now. I don't find the Guerrero fight compelling at all, but it was one of the few left that could draw any sort of a crowd. The only boxer I see who has a chance of decisively whipping Floyd is Adrian Broner and that fight will probably never get made. Adrian needs to get bigger and by the time that happens, Floyd will be ready to retire. Besides, they're friends.

I'd buy a PPV Mayweather v Klitschko fight though.

Well, I do agree with that partially. He has a nose for business and his paydays reflect that. I don't think he has made the right call on them all though, and I feel like he certainly has ducked a few folks, Pacquiao especially. He also missed the boat on that payday I believe.

2-3 years ago I think Pacquiao could have beaten Floyd. Now I think the fire is gone from Manny.

Not a fan of Floyd, but the guy is a gym rat and is always in shape. I have a hard time picturing Guererro being able to top his performance against Berto.

Re: Canelo Alvarez: He is in against a live one with Austin Trout. It is Alvarez's toughest challenge so far.
