Fixing a nick with your. razor!

So just finished shaving, don't know if anyone else has stumbled on this, but had to share. I was going too fast and gave myself a good nick on the edge of my lip. Not a big worry since I'm not a heavy bleeder but I have to go meet some clients, I have no styptic pencil, and then this idea pops in my head...what if I run the run the Merkur under really cold water and just hold the smooth top plate/head on the nick? Hypothesis was it should work like those endswell things in boxing. Cold metal will contract those capillaries and stop the bleeding. Not all that surprisingly, it worked like a charm! Apologies if this is common knowledge, but I was pretty chuffed figuring it out. Cheers!

Argh! I never cut myself normally but I ended up using this trick faster than expected on my jaw.

Today I decided to go WTG with my R41, when my kid entered the bath room asking questions about Donald Duck. I was answering the questions. When I came to the jaw area, I was not taking into consideration I was moving the jaw because I was talking. I ended up with a 1+ cm cut.

What a great tip. Thanks for sharing.

Never knew about this--just looked it up:

Enswell

An enswell (sometimes called an "end-swell") is a small piece of metal used by a second, corner or cutman to apply pressure to an injury to reduce swelling. An enswell may be solid metal (usually stainless steel) and kept cool within icewater, or may be constructed with a hollow chamber to hold water and pre-frozen or filled with ice. Proper use of the enswell is to apply light pressure and hold the tissue in normal position, as the cold slightly constricts the capillaries to reduce ancillary swelling. Excessive pressure, or attempts to "iron out" a bruise, will only damage tissue further and exacerbate the bruise or contusion.

Neat, I will try it sometime!

I know if I get a minor weeper, the cold water rinse usually closes them up. Nicks require stypic pencil.
