Fitting blades into the razor

Hi,

This may be one of the silliest questions on the forum but I still want to ask to make sure.

Is there an upside or downside to blades? I have been fitting them in at random so far for a few weeks now with no thought. It's only when I was fitting out my 38C a few minutes ago that I noticed four dabs of glue or grease on the blade. It made me think is that top or bottom on the blade and, if so, which way should I fit it into the razor.

I am sorry if it's a ludicrous question but, it's too late if you do something wrong when shaving, and I just want to have everything right beforehand

Cheers,

Mark

If you put the blade in upside down, it actually makes your beard grow more. And don't even *ask* what happens if put the wrong edge toward the front of the handle...

(No, it doesn't make any difference.)

Those wax blobs are there to hold the blade centered in the paper. Not all blades have 'em. A lot of guys use an old blade to remove the stuff before installing in the razor.

Cheers fellas,

It's funny that I never noticed the four dabs on the blades before, which would have got me thinking (or worrying to be more accurate) before this evening.

Maybe some blobs are more visible than others? Either that or I need my eyes tested again :001_rolle

Thanks for the help,

Mark

I usually aim the glue globs down so they don't stick to the doors on my TTO's but I'm finicky about these sort of things.

not all brands of blades have the wax blobs, so its probably not your eyes deceiving you.

its a pity that my favourite brand have wax blobs, its such a pain the a*** having to clean them when they are 'brand new'

I just leave the blobs be, they don't seem to effect the razor or the quality of the shave in anyway. I have noticed some brands of blade are numbered 1 and 2 on one side of the blade, then 3 and 4 on the other side. Derby Extra is one brand that has numbered sides. What is the significance of the numbers? FWIW I always load the blade with the 1 and 2 facing up.

The numbers are for the manufacturer's use in their quality control/packaging process.

As far as the blobs go, the only ones that bother me are the ones on my last batch of Astra SP's. They're so huge they extend almost to the edge of the blade.
