What's new

First successful shave with an OC. A great feeling.

So unlike many of you B&B members I've had a not so comfortable relationship with open combs. But tonight was a success! Not a weeper and managed to get a bbs a tad bit easier than that which I get from a guard bar. My line up consisted of GSB blade paired with Proraso while a well broken in SOC boar brush made excellent lather. Thanks to the Sheraton this razor may be a keeper. Just thought I'd share. Excited for the next shave!:thumbup1:

Be careful. Once you get hooked on the open-comb razors you will find it hard to go back to bar razors. Trust me, I've tried. They just seem to shave better (at least for me). Glad you got a great shave. Nice setup there.

+1. I'm glad you took the dive. They don't bit! Well.........not most of the time.

Congrats! They shave wonderfully. But I disagree with Sam. They are like a spoiled beautiful woman, they want all of your attention and will bite if they feel they aren't getting it!

Great that you have a nice shave with it :) The TTO OC's are nice razors. My second razor i got was a single ring, and we have gotten on fine...most of the time :D

One of the few Gillettes I haven't tried, so much for having my RAD under control. Congrats on a successful shave and enabling.

There is the problem. With a solid bar it's a no brainer while with the OC attention is mandatory to the point of neurosis. An ever slight deviation from angle x and you feel the bite especially going atg. On my upper lip it's been almost impossible in the past. This last OC shave I did a couple extra passes xtg/dttg(diagonal) to prepare for atg and that seemed to help. The best feeling with the OC was the uninterrupted slicing of hair unlike by a solid bar. Especially atg! That was only a few strokes less than a solid bar but hey, I'll take it.:thumbup1:

Add: Also the OC razors are some of the most beautifully made razors around. Grr. Should have kept the 36 Aristocrat....That one was SO close to being good to me I bet I could shave with it now. Off to find one! Wish me luck!

Congrats on your Sheraton success. I have great results with mine as well. Rest assured that your '36 Aristocrat found a good home. I hope you can locate a replacement. You seem to be the Stahly Whisperer, so my guess is your remarkable powers will allow you to find a suitable example for your den.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. It's certainly a small milestone that I hope to repeat in the future. I'd love to collect OC too and not limit myself to just solid bars. They are beautiful works. Ollie thanks for the assurance. I know it went to a good home and I have no regrets on where it went. :thumbup1: Besides I'm truly not a gold guy. Now a silver Aristocrat. Whoowee! Now there's a looker. Ohh, I think I see one! Have to go fishing..

Update : Just had a second great shave. Looking like a trend. Yeaay!
I see you below Ollie. Thanks for the luck!

Shave #5 and only getting better. Tonight I loaded up with MDC to the point of ridiculous that the brush itself self lathered. Popped in a new GSB and was rewarded with bbs. I attribute this to the Sheraton, my third, and a smidgen of better technique. I'd like to say the Sheraton is a mild razor but having no experience with OC I lack a reference point. If anyone could chime in with their OC experience and a Sheraton that would be great. Like to know where on the shave scale I'm at.

I find the Sheraton extremely mild. But very effective. I rank it with my Weber as far as mildness. You could use it everyday, with average technique, and never have razor burn or other irritation issues.

Thanks J. I felt like it did too and it confirmed my own experience. What other OC compare to the Sheraton?
