What's new

First Straight Razor Purchase

I got this in an auction with a NOS Ever-Ready 100T brush ($15). Come to find out my great grandfather used a Genco straight.

It has some slight discoloration on the blade and a spot of rust on the back tang between the scales. Overall it looks like it is in good condition, edge looks nice with not a lot of hone wear.

Would it be worth restoring/honing? Are Genco's any good? How much do you think it would run to fix up? It is a B2 does that mean something?

a definate candidate for restoration - because it doesnt need hardy any.

Give it a good polishing up with some maas and then it should be good to send out to a honemeister

That razor will be the best since you know where it comes from!

wipe it with metal polish, have it honed and try it. if you really like it it could be made to look like new too with a little extra effort.

I appreciate the honing offer Ambrose and will take you up on it. Should I try to polish out the discoloration before I send it? I was planning on using a cotton cloth and rubbing compound.

I tried to PM you but your box is full.
