Purchase of a Mystery Stone

Well, I am certainly no expert... But to me 1-2 and 3 look more like a rouge du salm/la Lorraine backing as aposed to a bbw.
It was my understanding that Bbw have a Grey-ish/blue colour to them.
Well, I’m just not seeing enough wine red or mix of reds and purples to call it a RDS or Lorraine personally. But pictures are hard to ID from and the range of BBW and RDS/LL can be quite similar to my eyes at times. BBW can be quite purple and light and some can be kind of reddish while not being RDS too. Some BBW are plain weird and slurry brown and other things. In all his pics I lean towards BBW.

Am I going to annoy everyone (?) by saying… They’re not really two different things, and that geology, just like colour, happens on spectrums.

I’ve put the hours in with BBW/RdS/LaL, because whatever way you spin it; it’s one of the world’s great natural sharpening stones. And I promise you: I can see no meaningful correlation between colour and performance.

Redder stones are less common than purpler ones. So if you like red things and/or scarcity, then having a red one is gonna be great.

But really it’s all just variations on theme.

Looks like a Hindo to me. I've found they are a bit coarse/sandy when I first clean them up and flatten them, but after a couple of uses, they get to a cleaner more consistent grit but still reasonably aggressive in the removal of swarf. I have two finer ones that don't really absorb much water and three coarser ones that need a minute of absorbing water before I can start a slurry that will sit on the stone.
