I recently purchased a Merkur slant at an auction! I threw a Derby in there and got a prety good shave with it. One good nick though - It definately will take some getting used to. Is there any way to date Merkur razors?

One method that can work is to offer to buy them dinner.
Jump them and get their I.D.

Any ideas as to what year this razor was made??
Not sure but I love the paper box. Below see the two examples, the gold one on the right is the earlier with the Gillette clone handle and the white Bakelite case. Robert Waits the editor of Safety Razor Compendium dated it to 1925. The other with the clear top and the current design came later but I am not sure of a date. I think the white Bakelite is older then the metal case but again I am not sure. I hope to find some old Merkur catalogs eventually to get an idea what the production dates might be. The clear top with the black bottom case is relatively new and was used up until recently when they went to the paper cases.
