What's new

First shave with my own edge!

In the mail was a JR Torrey i had picked up off of BST. I think it was originally sold by Obiwan... so I didn't have much work to do. I ran to home depot and picked up a nice flat piece of marble. Sat down with my marble and lapping film turned on an old MST3K and lapped 5, 3, 1 and then 1 with the paper under it. 50 laps on the strop and it was passing the HHT with flying colors ... hair was just popping off the blade. Shower then put it to the test. This was only my 7th shave but it was by far my best ever ... no tugging no pulling.. it was wonderful. Sorry just had to tell someone. :)

Congrats, nothing like knowing you did it yourself! Now you've opened up Pandora's box. Why not try a stone next time, so much more satisfying!!!!

Thank you all for the encouragement!! It's such a relief to know when my razor looses its edge I can take care of it. Film is a great option for someone on a budget or a complete newb like me.

Nice, I love the self-sufficiency of honing your own razor! What's up with the marble? Does it serve the same function as a wet-stone? Maybe I'll check the wiki and see if it talks about it.. :turned:

I think it provides a flat surface for the lapping film.

Congrats! I really should try film. I have been hit and miss with my Cotie. Some blades I get with no problem. Then there are some that I can't seem to get no matter how hard I try.
It's a great felling shaving off a edge that you created. A feeling that only someone that hones for themselves can really understand.
