For the first time in months I skipped a day of shaving yesterday and had some nice stubble going. I decided to finally try out a vintage Black King Solingen spike point I purchased several months ago. Frankly, since I'm still pretty new to straights I've been a bit intimidated by the spike point. I have been shaving with a Dovo 6/8" and a 5/8", both round tips.
What a shave! I had it honed by Ray-man awhile back and it sliced through the whiskers effortlessly. I like my Dovo's, but this shave felt totally different. The blade seemed to sing a bit at times. After one pass, I had as close a shave as I do with the Dovos after two passes. With another pass and some clean up, I had probably my closer shave ever of any method I've ever used - straights, DE's or cartridges.
I got one tiny nick with the point. Have to change my technique a bit since I have been using the rounded tip to get certain spots, but all in all it wasn't as difficult to use as I thought it would be.
Makes me want to go and get some more vintage razors. And so another bout of SRAD begins.
Just thought I'd share.
