First shave with a slant.

Just got a merkur. Used a gillette thin blade.
Incredible!
Aggressive by results, mild by feel. Am I cutting hairs? Wow, yes. Ok that's an exaggeration, but first pass got a lot closer than it felt like. Almost didn't need another pass, but wanted to.

I have had my slant about six weeks now and have used nothing else. My other razors are quite upset with me I'm afraid. Such is life as the slant is my love now!

Is there a proper way to shave with a slant? I'm getting one in soon.
A light touch and NO PRESSURE are essential. Check out The BALANCE POINT Method in the ShaveWiki.

I (and many others) prefer to use a Feather blade, but YMMV. Start with whatever is your current go-to blade, and try the Feather after you get your technique down.

I find that my 39C is at its best when its harvesting at least 3 days worth of stubble ... so unfortunately I can't use it every day. I'd like to, though, because Sir SlantHammer gives me the closest, most precise shave of anything in my arsenal of Weapons of Mass Defoliation.

I tend to use my slant every third shave or after skipping a day or two. I use a Merkur HD or Gillette Tech in between slant shaves. This lets my beard recover from the devastation of a subcutaneous slant shave.

The Slant is one interesting piece of hardware. Make sure that you align the blade properly and the razor will do the rest.

+1 Here's a link to a thread on that - http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=87841

As far as the Slant giving a close shave, even now it doesn't feel like I have stubble. And this morning, it sounded like the blade was cutting wire.

The more you use the Slant Bar, the better you will get (unless you fololishly try for a new speed record, like I did), and the closer your shaves will be.

Just had my first experience last week with a Hoffritz slant I got off the bay.

I was too intimidated to use a Feather so I used a Personna instead.

It was a very good shave but I think it will be even better when my technique with this particular razor improves (it's quite large and bulky compared to a tech) and I switch to the Feather.

I've also been shaving for about a week with a Hoffritz slant. Got a few nicks at first but it's working just great now with either a Derby or Yellow 7 o'clock blade.
I use it every day without any problems so far, no pressure and the right angle gives DFS each time. :w00t:
