First pass discomfort

Have you guys had an uncomfortable and irritating first pass, then have your second and third pass feel good? It was a new blade (persona red) and I had a little more stubble than usual. All in all it was a good shave but I had a lot of tugging on the first pass

Short slow strokes over stubble and 5 minutes solid hydration.

Sometimes the first pass with a new blade can feel like the blade is actually dull, and then the next few shaves are fantastic. Try again tomorrow with the same blade and see how it turns out.

It's not unheard of.
Some blades give a better second and third shave than a third, also depends on your whiskers also; that's what puts the MV in the YM.

I shave after showering if that's what you mean.

I won't toss this blade yet.

That does occasionally happens to me as well. Like the others have said some times it take a little "breaking in" for a blade to really settle in. It very well could have been because of the extra stubble.

It could also be angle. I used to feel like I was pulling at longer stubble.

Personna Reds tug for me regardless of what I do. That's why I don't use them anymore.
