First New Boker

Got my new toy today from Jarod at The Superior Shave. Can't say enough good about Jarod- he has always been willing to help me and his service is top notch. After repeated discussions with Jarod last week, I decided to go with the Boker Silver Steel. Looking forward to trying this singer later tonight.

That Boker is awesome.
Need to get a razor from Jarod but since i am in Canada customs worries me a bit as they may slam me on customs.
But i see that Jarod has gorgeous Bokers.
Congrats on yours.

That is a great looking razor. Love the scales. Seems to have some heft to it, too. Would this make a good 2nd straight razor? I've been shaving with a straight (Dovo) for about 4 months now and feel confident to get something else. However, this paragraph on the Superior Shave site concerned me:

Good as Böker's product is, I don't think they should be your choice in a first straight razor. On paper it may sound like a petty issue, but their preference for a very smooth and slightly rounded razor tang (which is how all of them but their 6/8" extra hollow razor, also a bad first razor choice, are made) makes for a razor that requires a bit more familiarity 'round the breed to operate with confidence.

Hard to say if this would be a good choice for a second razor. My experience isn't that superior to yours. I have about 75-80 shaves under my belt and I was anxious to try this Boker. Being an extra hollow ground, it has a slightly different feel from my full hollow razors for sure, but I suspect if one can safely wield a straight, this one would be no different. This razor does have some heft, around 58 gms I believe, though it still feels like a toy compared to my Hart Steel. Apples and oranges. Love the shape and size of the blade. The shank has top and bottom jimps as well, which provides for a very comfortable grip. Overall, I am very pleased I picked this one up.

@ storm. I think Jarrod was just cautioning people not comfortable with straight shaving to look at something easier to hold. If you've been at it with success for a couple of months, you should be fine. It's just Jarrod being helpful to make sure new shavers are set up for success.

Thanks guys. It shaves very nice and the blade size is about perfect for me. Audible feedback is crazy loud with the extra hollow grind. Great razor.
