What's new

First higher end brush purchase

I have been wetshaving for a long time now (both DE and straight) and have been using the original brush that I received in my merkur HD gift set--a Vulfix 660 medium sized in super. I am interested in purchasing a silvertip, preferably in a larger size like a 23 or 24mm knot. I bowl lather with creams. I do not wish to spend more than $100, but I suppose I will if I have to. What do you all suggest? I had been leaning towards the shavemac #177, but am completely open to suggestions. Thanks for your time!

I've had the Shavemac #177 for a couple of weeks. Pure luxury. It's going to stay in heavy rotation for a while.

That is....until the Thater gets here.

I like the Rooney 1/2 or 1/3 here... 23-24mm Shavemac or Thater aren't bad choices either. What about a Simpsons Commodore X3 or Duke 3???

Try this 23mm Shavemac silvertip or this 24mm Silvertip wood handle...I am expecting both of mine soon :001_smile.

Alternatively, you can order this 24mm Thater or this 23mm Thater brush. There are many others in that price category from SRD you can choose.

Although I don't own one, I have heard that the Saville Rows are pretty good too. For example, this 24mm SR or this one.

You got a lot of choices...Also the B/S/T section on B&B is a wonderful resource to try out. You will find many good deals from other B&B-ers.

Good luck,
Robert

Thank you all for the suggestions. I really like the Thater brushes that I've seen, so I might end up with that. I'll check the b/s/t first, of course, but what are the chances that i'll find a displeased Thater owner!

I bet that is the lightest brush on the market
