What's new

First Gillette DE

So I have looked high and low at local antique shops and what few local estate sales that have been around in Ohio this winter with no luck in my search for my first Gillette DE. I have even turned to the bay but the prices are usually high. I do not have the 50 posts yet to get into b/s/t but I am getting close. The members at B&B have been great with all their info and in the words of my wife have created a monster as I am now hooked on the only correct way to shave and the need to have the correct tools. Any help to find the first Gillette for this newbie as always would be appreciated. Thanks to all the great members that have been so helpful in educating me.

You could start with an adjustable aka Slim, Fatboy, Super Adjustable. Or a gillette tech, will provide a mild shave and can be had for quite cheap :)

I may be wrong, and anyone feel free to correct me, but it's my understanding that you can buy from the members listings on the B/S/T anytime but you are not allowed to post until you have reached the time and post requirements. I made purchases on it before I reached the posting requirements. I'm still fairly new myself and I acquired quite an assortment of razors to try out, like most people seem to do, and I've found for me that the fat handled Gillette Tech and the black handled Gillette Super Speed have been the most forgiving for working on my shaving technique as well as being very reasonably priced.

Must be members of B&B for at least 45 days and have contributed a minimum of 50 quality posts. Members can post one new thread in the BST every 14 day. There is no limit on the number of items listed in the initial post, may have more than one Active Thread at a time. f it doesn't sell, and you'd like to re-list it in a future thread, you'll need to reduce the price by at least 20% in each subsequent relisting. Items which have not been listed for sale for at least 90 days may be relisted without the 20% price drop.

Do your 12 posts in the next two days and go BST.

Contributed a minimum of 50 quality posts on this site in order to qualify to sell or trade. The vast majority of a member's posts should be in the core areas of B&B.:thumbup1: and been a member of B&B for at least 45 days.

The Tlentz has been here for less 45 days, he joined Feb/2013

You don't need 50 post to buy anything. You can buy any time you want.

4. New members are welcome to purchase items from the B/S/T forum right away, but must wait until they've amassed 45 days of membership and 50 posts to use this forum to sell, trade, or post "want to buy" ads. More on the B/S/T Rules here.

Yep, go buy a nice tech or super speed from the BST, Hobbyist or Vendor sections.

B&B Vendor Garry has a bargain for 30 bucks: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...mp-Back-To-Work-Sale!!!?p=4698479#post4698479

Vintage Gillette Razor Starter Kits:

$30.00 Shipped CONUS - please PM for International Shipping

Contents of the Starter Kit:

Razor - 1 User Grade (or better) Vintage Gillette Safety Razor. The razor will be cleaned, sanitized and ready to shave when you get it. User grade razors may not be collectors items in the looks department but are guaranteed to be shave ready with no issues.

Blades - 10 DE Blades (brands will vary). The blades will be well known brands so you can easily buy more if you like them.

Brush - 1 Brand New Omega Boar Brush (model will vary but it will be Omega brand). These are brand new brushes from one of the top boar brush makers.

Shave Soap - 1 Arko Shaving Soap Stick or 1oz of Cella Shaving Soap (your choice). If you don't indicate your choice, I will gladly pick for you. Arko may just be one of the easiest shaving soaps to lather on the market today. It's low priced and soft enough to mold into the mug or container of your choice if you don't want to use it as a soap stick. The Strop Shoppe soap is fairly new to the market but is a quality artisan made shaving soap with tallow and highly recommended for anyone who doesn't think they will like the industrial citronella scent of the Arko soap.

Aftershave - 1/2oz Aftershave Splash (brands will vary). I will select 2 splashes 1/4oz each based on current available stock. There are some negative associations with alcohol based splashes but I would like to ask you to not believe the hype...yet. An alcohol based splash may be just what you need to revive and heal your sensitive or oily skin and you won't know until you try.

Extra Benefit - I wanted to give every new guy a little extra reason to come back and do business with me again so I will also include 1 Trade Certificate entitling you to return the razor at any time in the same usable condition and in return I will send you a different model Vintage Gillette razor or $10.00 worth of samples (your choice). We would each pay our own shipping and the original certificate must be returned with the razor. All I ask is that you email or PM me before mailing your razor so I can keep track of everything.

I got my Adjustable Slimboy by chance.
I sit on the board of our local museum and sometimes we get estate of some people. And one day a colleague had some DE razors. There was a Slim Twist, a very rusty Rotbart and a Gillette Slimboy. At that moment I didn´t recognize that it is a Slimboy. I only saw the razor is adjustable and TTO and I didn´t own a TTO so far. I asked if I could take it along and so I got my Gillette as a present.
At home I researched what razor it is and was very surprised to find out, that this is a Gillette Adjustable Slimboy produced 1966 (L3).
The Slimboy gives me always a smooth shave when I use it on 6. But it must be a sharp blade.
