First Fat Boy Shave

Hey all,

So the Fat Boy razor I bought from another member on the B/S/T arrived today. I cleaned it up a little and it looks and work great!

I loaded it up with the Red Personna I've used for a couple of shaves already from another razor (no use getting a new blade) and tried it out. I started with it at 5 and did my WTG pass. Very nice! I'll have to try other settings on it, but 5 worked very well for me on the WTG pass. I decided to try and dial it down for my XTG pass and tried a 3. Very nice as well! It wasn't that much of a difference from 5 and I'll have to experiment a bit, but shaving with this razor seems really easy. It'll be fun to dial it to a higher setting and trying it out, but my first test shave was so successful that I think I'll like this razor on any setting.

I kind of like the heft of the razor, it looks a little bulky but sturdy. The weight felt good in my hands and had no problem maneuvering around my face.

This razor is a winner. :thumbup1:

Love my Fat Boy. It could easily be my daily driver if I did not want to preserve it. That being said I took it for a spin this morning.

I like shaving with the Fat Boy on occasion. It's like driving a little tank all over my face.

Good shaver and it feels solid.

The red tip is a beauty! It's the only razor i'd buy two of, and will soon do because after I sold my user and bought my collector, i'm too paranoid to use it because it's just in pristine condition but I want to shave with it so bad!

Use it!! Razors are meant to be shaved with, not looked at.

I have a Fatboy and a Slim in the mail myself and can not wait for them to show up. I'm also thinking about a Red Tip...

I 99% of the time shave only with a straight razor, the only DE i bother with is the Gillette Fat Boy. Its a great DE IMHO.

+1. It is the only DE I have left. The heft is perfect for me. I just set it to 9 and let gravity do the work... mows those whiskers down! :thumbup1:

The FB is great. The only problem I have with it (and my slim) is shaving my mustache area. The head is too big to get all the hairs!

Ah... the dichotomy of buying a razor for collecting.

While I also think adjustables are great just on general principle, there has always been one thing that has bothered me: once you get comfortable with the razor, don't you tend to settle on one setting? I purchased a slim adjustable about 1968 (new). And used it for about 15 years before hanging it up in my prior life. In my new life as I look at it what I see is just one number with the paint rubbed off, the 5. This was the setting that i used exclusively. And if you do this, just how adjustable is the darn thing?

I guess it still makes sense if that one setting gives you a level of aggressiveness/exposure that you can't get in any non-adjustable.

I agree. Even if you don't adjust during the shave it still allows you the customize the razor to suit you. But if you're already happy with the level of aggression with another fixed-head razor then I guess you don't really have a use for it!

Though I don't own a FB (sorry to hijack your thread) I love using an adjustable. I can never achieve a BBS shave going WTG or XTG and my skin is to sensitive and hair to wiry to use the same level of aggressiveness as I use for my other passes to go ATG. Until I got my progress I never went ATG, but the whole point of the adjustable for me is so that I can dial it all the way down for a smooth ATG pass.
