First Cell Phone call made 40 years ago today

The world's first public call made on a Cell Phone was 40 years ago today by Motorola Engineer Martin Cooper.
The cost of that phone (as a consumer version) in today's dollars would be almost $10 000.

My how the world has changed in 40 years.
Now cell phones have better cameras in them than most point and shoot cameras for cryin' out loud!

Needs milk and a bidet!
I think it was "can you hear me now?"

i'm always amazed at the date technology actually made its first debut. i'm thinking the first cell phone was used in the late 80's early 90's. first computer I always thought was like the 70's.....way off

My first cell phone I was 15, absolutely no one called me but my mother for the first few months. giant Primeco. I would tell whoever was at home when I left "call me in like 20 minutes, i'll be at the store then"

I think it was similar to this one:

Anyone remember when the Motorola StarTAC was THE phone to have?
Before that it was the big flip phones.
I remember if you had the StarTAC, you were part of the in crowd.

However there just wasn't anything cool about pulling up the antenna.
