What's new

First Blade!

So I have been lurking these forums for quite some time and finally decided to make the leap from DE shaving to the straight razor!
Because I had some spare money i decided to invest in a brand spankin new razor, which is now off to the honemeister for shave readiness!

Did not buy from this store but that is the one :001_tt1:

My question is: how do you guys travel with a straight razor as i will be doing some travelling in the coming months and intend to take it with me for practice :p
Do you take a strop with you or improvise on the spot ?
How about creams etc. spoiled for choice!
How about brushes I dont have a dedicated case for any of my brushes what would be the way to take those with me?

Welcome to B&B!

Nice straight mate!

All right Travelling: There's an article in Wiki about it. A straight is a no-no on a plane. If you check it under the plane, it's fine. It might be good to have a second straight in case something happens, a cheaper straight is good. Check on BST, you will find one for cheap. Even if it's not a looker, as long as it's shave ready, you will be fine. If it gets lost, it won't be a big deal.

Strop: If you can, yes, otherwise, you could always use newspaper to strop your straight but, paper will never replace leather... It works but not nearly as good as leather

Cream/soaps: Shaving sticks are pratical for that. A shaving soap or shaving cream is all right to travel with.

Brush: There are small travel brushs. I would recommend a cheap boar brush so again, if you loose it, no damages!

Yeah I guess that that is one of the disadvantages of having a straight, no checking it in as handluggage :glare: Oh well will probably have to check in my luggage anyways.
Have never used boar before ... Any idea what that would set me back for? Guess I could use a tupperware box for my brush :p might look strange.. oh well..

Omega boar will sell for ~$10. Which is great if you loose it and it works well!

Tupperware or ziplock bags are easy to use for that. Make sure everything is dry before you pack them!

I pack two razors and a travel strop. I buy canned goop locally.

Have to check them, otherwise they'd be in my carry-on. Definitely choose two razors that are replaceable. ;)

Oh, and if I'm going for longer than a month, I take a hone with me. Probably my spyderco UF. I can afford to lose that one.
