Finding a 2 piece Gillette

I was wondering what Gillette line makes a 2 piece razor? I really like how they work and look but I haven't been able to find any.

Edit: Mods if you want to move this to the Double edge razor section feel free. I forgot I was in the general forum when I made this thread lol

On ebay, you would be lucky if they mentioned it was a 2 piece (77/88), in my experience. The ones I bought were all from England and those sellers seem reluctant to put up more then one photo and not much of a description. If there is a case, that is a good clue as well as emailing the sender and asking about it. I like the ones that I take a bit of a chance on, as it's more likely to be flying below the radar and a better deal.

Yeah I'll keep looking hopefully I'll get lucky.

I like the look of the #77 and #88 so that should be one of the ones I get.

Yes, unless the seller shows a picture of it apart you would have to ask them to take it apart then ask if the base plate stayed with the handle.

I found a 1920's "New Standard" razor that says it's a 3 piece but the bottom half of the handle comes off.

...but the open come part is built into the handle though. I'm guessing this is considered a 2 piece?

It may be semantics, but to me a two piece razor has the bottom plate fixed to the shaft and a captured,
non-removable, knob like the Gillette #77/#88 and the Merkur HD series.

In their old catalogs Merkur used to distinguish between short-threaded three-piece and long-threaded three-piece razors. It is a useful distinction. A short-thread three-piece has a free guard plate, like a Tech or a ball-end NEW. A long-thread has a fixed plate, like a two-piece razor. A long-thread could be a two-piece if it had the right crimp or ring to keep the knob attached, and a two-piece with a broken retaining ring becomes a long-thread three-piece.
