What's new

Finally made a shaving soap wikipedia article

Nice article and well thouht out.

Just one comment; I see myself as a "shaving traditionalist" rather than a hobbyist.

Very well written!

I tried to edit, and it won't accept my password. I know the password is correct, because I copy/pasted it when creating it and also when entering it later.

If the below is a good addition, would someone add it to the article? Otherwise, no offense taken.

ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES

The primary advantage of shave soap over aerosol shaving creams is the additional hydration provided by shave soaps. For optimal softening of whiskers, the natural oils on the face and whiskers must be removed. This is done effectively by shave soap because of the oil removing soap ingredients, and the scrubbing action of the brush.

After oil is removed from the whiskers by the shave soap and brush, water can more easily penetrate the whiskers. This results in whiskers being more easily cut than when using aerosol and other shaving creams not using soap and the abrasive action seen with the use of shave soap and brush.

The principal disadvantages of shave soap is lack of convenience and space. Creating the lather and preparing the face is more time consuming than most shaving creams. In addition, use of a shave mug and optionally a lather bowl, consumes more space than most shaving creams.

Shave soaps typically cost more initially, when the shave mug and soap is purchased. These costs can be significantly reduced by using mugs and bowls found in the kitchen, or purchased for a small amount at resale stores.

Even though shave soaps may cost more initially when buying the soap and equipment, over a longer period of time, shave soaps are comparable in cost, or even cheaper than many shaving creams.

One thing you might want to do is add some references... Wikipedia is not the place for original research. So if you're motivated, find some reliable sources, like books, or news articles for the information and put it up there. You aren't required to login, just hit the edit button.

I don't think you have to have an account to edit, unless the article's been semi-protected. And unless shaving soap is a lot more controversial than I think, I doubt that's a concern.
