What's new

Finally, a restore for me!

Pretty much all my restores have been special orders or have been going up on Ebay, but I just got this blade in the mail yesterday, and it was so pretty I just had to keep it for myself! I spent all morning restoring it in horn with a brass-lined horn wedge, keeping the original shape of the scales. It's a Lord & Harvey, circa 1817-1831:

It wasn't in too bad of shape when I got it - phenomenal shape actually, with some surface rust and a little of the original mirror polish peeking through. Which is crazy for a blade that old. This razor has new custom scales, and the blade only saw 600 grit greaseless and higher.

It looks great! Did you really do two different polish levels on the blade, matte on the uppers and front, and near-mirror on the blade, or does the first picture just make it look like that? Very classy. The Brass/Brown Horn combo looks very nice.

Thanks for all that guys, I really like this one. Papafish, it's the same polish all over - its very nearly a mirror finish. Was easy to do, as the blade had very little rust, and incredibly, much of the original finish was intact - which was a true mirror polish. Incredible that they had the knowhow to do that back then, and today, we struggle with it!
