Film Noir

I was discussing a love for Film Noir and it got me to check on my library to see exactly what I have, and to seek from the wise film buffs here advice on what I absolutely need to add to my library.
Please note that my definition of Film Noir may be looser than some, though I tend NOT to care for more modern films past the early to mid 60's.
So, this is what I currently have... What do I NEED?

List is alphabetical rather than by date (leaving off beginning articles such as "A" and "The"

That's a pretty comprehensive list there Phil! Great work.

I would suggest Ace In The Hole (1951) with Kirk Douglas. A dark cynical film.

It's debatable whether it is a true member of the genre, but I think it is.

I think some might say the same about Casablanca, but I would argue vehemently that it fits the bill remarkably.

What a wonderful list.

May I also suggest The Set-Up, 1949, staring Robert Ryan, who plays an aging boxer who defies the gangsters who ordered him to throw his last fight. Movie takes place in real time, to the point that even the clock is in sync with the movie. Shows up on TCM every so often, and good quality versions exist on the web. I love film noir, and this is one of my favorites.

My personal opinion only, but the single greatest noir is Detour (1945). If you're interested, it's free on YouTube

Great lineup. I'd recommend Fritz Lang's masterpiece. Earlier than standard noir, but a worthy inclusion in the genre, or a precursor.

I know this is a modern movie, "Brick" - 2005. But it is noir on steroids. If you get a chance to see it, you'll see exactly what I mean.

If you’re gonna count “North by Northwest” then you have to include “Rear Window”.

The UK film industry was a big hitter back in the day and it made quite a few that would fall into the Noir category.

Brighton Rock (1948) with a young Richard Attenborough playing the psychopathic young gangster Pinkie is a classic.

I have Maltese Falcon, I must have missed putting it on the list. Never heard of Ninotchka, I'll look it up!
