Filly Strop with paste

I just got my Filly strop in the mail. The reverse side (rough side) has green paste on it - CROx I gather. But the paste is just a smear in the center of the strop.

Do I need to work that in to the rest of that side of the strop, or do I just leave it where it is, and strop along it when the time comes to use the pasted side?

Mate, I'm a newbie with a Filly too. I thought the same thing, so went online for some CROX powder, and made most of the back of it green. Seems to work OK so far.

Hopefully someone with more experience can enlighten us both!

Ditto. My strop has the same and I don't want to mess it up. Anxious to hear the right method.

That's OK as is. Be sure you do a good x-pattern.

if you do an X pattern its fine, and you should be doing an X pattern.

Its better to not go go overboard with the pastes, thats more than enough

Agreed. That looks like quite a bit of paste to me. Even if it is concentrated in the center.

Paste is not for everyday stropping, its for touch ups when the blade gets a little dull.

I have the Filly with the paste and the amount of paste on their is perfectly fine. I've used the back side with the paste to touch up my blade and in 15 passes the blade was plenty able to cut my beard with no problems.

Since I am new to this as well, I was wondering where a good Vendor is for buying the Filly Strop? As I am going to need one with my rough beard. Its going to dull the straight edge pretty fast.

Just looking at an entry level strop for now and then will upgrade it later on down the road. Thanks in advance and hope this isn't thread jacking. I didn't want to ask about it since there was a discussion about it already. :001_smile
