Few Questions regarding Cobra Classic

I consider buying Cobra Classic but before I decide I want to ask few questions from people who already went this road.

There are currently sold for $145 from Classic Shaving which is quite steep.

There is nothing on BST - its quite rare, appeared for sale only couple of times in the past.

1. Does B&B have any discounts with Classic Shaving ? ( I can call CS and ask, of course, but it would be better to know upfront )

2. If I buy it, use it for week or so, and decide it's not for me what would be the customary and reasonable price I can ask for it on BST ? ( I've never sold or bought anything on BST)

I picked up a cobra classic a while back for $120 from classic. At the time I thought it was a lot to spend but it's become my favorite razor, really happy with it. The only thing that's a bummer is the price of the blades has really gone up. They're now over $1 per blade which is pretty steep. I can get 5 shaves out of a blade though while I can usually get 3 from a regular DE blade.

To answer your questions:

1) CS does not offer discounts for B&B members.

2) I think you could get a really good price on BST, should have no problem getting $120 for it I would think.

Great razor -- you should give it a try. And you're bound to be able to recycle it if you find it's not to your liking. There are other SE razors for less money -- you could try one & then make the Cobra purchase if you find that the SE is the way to go.

The prices of the Cobra & its gear seem to be going up and the supply is pretty limited. No great deals on them -- but they may well be worth the asking price. Many on the forum agree.

If you have never been down the SE road before, I would probably start out with a Schick Injector instead. The blades are far less expensive, and easier to come by. The razors can be had for less than $20.

The Cobra Classic, and Schick Injector are pretty similar in concept.

The are some notable differences. A Feather blade is longer than a Schick Injector blade. The Cobra Classic is also considered to be madly aggressive, while the Schick Injector can range from mild (for something like a Type L) to quite aggressive (for something like a Type I HydroMagic).

The Cobra Classic has been my daily "go to" razor for two years. IMHO, the reason you don't see many offered in B/S/T is, in part, that the folks who purchase them fall in love with them. (I did)

Because of the rarity of offerings, I agree that there should be no problem getting most of your money back if you turn out to be one on the few who don't like the razor.

I'm not aware of any B&B discounts at Classic Shaving. It never hurts to ask, though - they're friendly people who are easy to work with.

Yes, the blades are a bit pricey. I have a medium beard, and I normally get at least 10 shaves from a blade before noticing any tugging or degradation in closeness of shave.

I agree completely. This razor has absolutely destroyed my RAD. It is pricey, and the blades are a bit more expensive, but they're still far cheaper than cartridges, and I can virtually guarantee that after using this beauty, you'll sell all your others.

In terms of aggressiveness, it's a bit like what I imagine a straight would shave like. You have to go slow, and pay attention, or you'll cut yourself. That being said, I generally don't cut myself, because you learn how to shave with it quite quickly. Also, I find that I have to make far fewer passes because the razor gets everything the first time, so it doesn't take me any longer than a standard DE.

My recommendation: GET ONE, before they stop making them. I just spent $250 on blades in preparation for the coming shaveocalypse, or when Feather goes out of business. It is worth it, because this is, as far as I am concerned, the one.

I've just went to their website with my tail between my legs and ordered one. They didn't forget to charge me sale tax (of course, they are located in California, where else ?). At least, shipping is free since it's over 100$.

CzechCzar's e-mail was the last nail in the coffin.
Who can resist to have straight shave without using straight razor ?

Seriously, I felt bad but as proverb says

"The best way to fight temptation is to yield to it"

I hope people estimates are true and if I don't like it I can unload it on BST after few trial shaves. Will compare it with my Futur and barberpole slant.

P.S. Will these folks who manufacture it ever produce a Cobra Classic slanted version ? (attempt to joke in order to ease sharp financial pain)

I think you'll love it. I got a great shave from mine today. If I lost mine for whatever reason I wouldn't hesitate to replace it.

It's really easy to get the angle right with it and despite its hefty size it gives quite a bit of feedback. I tried the folding and nonfolding versions of the feather straights and got butchered but with the cobra I don't get any irritation and if I do get a rare nick it's gone after splashing on cold water.

Ah yes, Grasshopper - the other proverb that you must consider is, "The best revenge is living well!" ... and, IMHO, with the CC, you will be living well.

After a few weeks of learning to be one with your Cobra Classic, you will be able to reach a state of complete unity in which you can cause the esteemed razor to transcend into the slanted version. After accomplishing this feat, the issue of cost becomes moot.

Seriously, after 2 years of daily use, I still love my CC!!! :thumbup1:
