Feather: The Mother of "all" blades

Well I picked up a 5 pack of feathers recently as i wanted to give them a try ever since I started. I did my usual prep, took a hot shower and washed my face with a neutrogena grapefruit cleanser. splashed my face with some warm water and whipped up a bowl of Proraso green. I had 2 day stubble but I wasnt nervous about trying feathers since I think after 3 months of shaving with a DE have helped my technique. I did 3 passes and touch up. Let me tell you the feather wasnt so much different WTG or XTG but it did feel a bit sharper than all the blades i have tried. Where I noticed the biggest difference was ATG, it just went through my whiskers like butter no tugging whatsoever, even around my neck area! I did a final touch up pass and wow, I can say this shave was the closest I've ever had even compared to a fusion or a Quattro. My face was so smooth I couldn't believe it, i finished up the shave with some barbasol Pacific rush which was kindly PIFed to me by another member and did not feel any burn whatsoever. My second shave with the feather was just as good as the first one. The 3rd one was a little different and the blade didn't feel as smooth so i guess it's true that they don't last as long as other blades. Overall I can say that the feathers are the best blades overall and will be looking to pick up a few when I get a bit more funds in.

I've had my best shaves with the Feather. But for me it's not a PERFECT blade and I still use several other brands that are less sharp but more forgiving. (I've also had my bloodiest shaves with the Feather.) I rarely take any blade to 4 shaves so using a Feather for only 2 or 3 shaves doesn't bother me.

I haven't used a Feather for about 2 weeks. I've been rotating Perma-sharp Supers, Super Iridiums, Personna Labs, and Personna Meds lately.

I did one shave with a Feather. It was indeed a close shave, but there was some (not much) irritation. Overall, I can get the same results out of Gillette blues or blacks with zero irritation.

I don't seem to get the best shaves after the second on either - quite disappointing bearing in mind the cost of them.

The seem to be the reverse of other blades who give a rough first shave but great second and third - Like Astra and sharks.

I've just been trying som Bolzano and they seem netter to me than Feather, sharp but great comfort.

However, I'll always some Feathers available for when I want a great shave and have the time to relax and enjoy my shave. The Feather/R41 combo maybe a scary shave after all you've read on here but with care taken it's an amazing shave.

Feather: The Mother of "all" blades
As always: YMMV. Feathers work best for me and they're what I prefer. That, however, doesn't mean that they're the "mother of all blades for everyone". That may have not been the intent of your subject line but it is easily interpreted as such.

I don't dig 'em, too many weepers for me. Especially on the 1st shave. 2nd shave not so bad. I only use them for travel.

A good but a bit rough. I feel there are several out there that give me a smoother shave plus KIA's are sharper.

I like the Feather Pros in my Cobra - I like the Feather DEs in my Weber, Stahly, EJ89...I don't like them in my R41 or Joris though.

... and of course, no one did, Feather = Sizzle - Steak.

They're good blades for some people. They're not bomber death planes nor assassins in your man cave.

It's safe to say that many of us get more reliable results from blades that sell for a fraction of the cost.

This brand is one of those rare products that is more ballyhooed by consumers than the makers. What is its mystique? These blades don't hurt me, they don't scare me, and I don't "get it".

Luckily for Feather, they have carved themselves a niche with these. Good luck to 'em! :biggrin1:

yeah i know YMMV that's why I put quotations around "all", what I really meant to convey was that they have been the best blades and sharpest that i have tried so far. Iknow there is plenty of other ones for me to try.

Blades made on four continents? The world is your oyster, my friend. Go git 'em! :biggrin1:

I have become enamored with the recent Astra SP blades as the best combination of shaving satisfaction and value on the market.... However (there is always a however), the Feather blades always amazed me for their two pass smooth face feel. Unfortunately, in most of my razors, there were often weepers left behind, no matter how carefully I shaved..

I still liked them enough to keep four or five packs in my stash, but saved them for special occasions when time wasn't a concern. Recently, including last night, and this evening, I tried a Feather in my favorite razor, the Stahly Live Blade wind up razor.

It was the best shaving experience I ever had, plain and simple. Quick, two pass shaves with a touch up, and no fear. No weepers, no cuts, just the smoothest shave ever with no drama at all. I would suggest that the Feather is a perfect match for a fully wound up Stahly razor, and if you have one of those razors, give the combo a try. It really is eye opening...

Then again, Feathers cost four times as much as Astras, and the Astras offer a pretty fine shave on their own. I'll still buy Feathers when I'm in the mood, or the price is right, but the Astra SP gives a fine, weeper free shave in both my Stahly, and Merkur razors, so they fill my cabinet.

Still, when I want the absolute ultimate shave without any drama, I'll pop a Feather in my Stahly, do two quick passes, and be amazed!

After trying just about every blade out there I always come back to the feathers. An amazing sharp blade that will let blood when used without respect. I even get 10 days out of it if I play it right and on the 7th it is still sharper than most.

I just returned to Feather blades. I tried them when I began DE shaving and found them harsh. Now, with my improved technique, I find them smooth and sharper and more efficient than most other blades.
