Feather Artist Club Prices

When did the prices for Feather products go up? I usually get my stuff from Japan so I didn't notice the US pricing. They've gone up a lot.
 
If you shop around, there are a few vendors that carry better prices - at least on the professionals - check westcoast, superiorshave and razorock (italianbarber).

The razors themselves have gone through the roof as well - I think they may have taken a hint from KAI, or at the very least are benefiting from the lack of similar KAI products (captain standard and excelia) in the US market.

I wonder if it is not a (mis)reaction to KAI entering the market in a bigger way. I am not sure when KAI entered or what market share they have, so that comment may be wrong. But still I imagine the product Execs at Feather feel it is their duty to get a certain revenue stream or profit margin from their Feather AC system, looking at Feather as being the premium brand and wanting to keep it that way. But the KAI Excelia razor and their Sharp blades are equal if not better to what Feather offers, so they have serious competition they may not acknowledge.

I am curious what their sales trends are, whether before this announcement they were increasing or flat. I imagine they have a stable base of consumers in the barber/hair-cutting professionals, but many of the individual self-shavers use it as a stepping stone to the traditional straights, so their market there is not so sticky. I like the Feather system and KAI blades as well, and I find myself going back to them because of the maintenance factor, but as I better learn how to maintain/hone a traditional blade I expect these to get used less and less.

Meaning if they consider me their target consumer they should be looking to keep their prices the same or lower, not raising them.
