Feather AC vs Barber Poll Slant

Guys, technique being equal which gives the better irritation free shave the Merkur Barber Poll Slant or the Feather AC.

Aren't you comparing apples and oranges here? Although a Slant twists the blade and is supposed to mimic the way a straight razor cuts, it's still a DE razor and the technique with which you use it is totally different than a straight like the Feather AC.

That being said, I'm sure several straight users will come along and tell you they consistently get perfect shaves.

I've got a Merkur Slant. Its not a barber pole.
I also have a Feather AC.

There really isn't much comparison. The shaves I get from the Feather AC are not to be toiled with by the likes of any DE.

I haven't tried the AC. No other shavette either.

But the barber pole slant (39C) is a mean shaver. Very, very good.
I own it, still I pick up a straight every day.
And have done so for many months.

They simply are more fun.

Albeit, the 39C loaded with a Feather is a great way to get a great shave.

YMMV.

I have used both, but hard to answer this question because the two are so different that there isn't much basis on which to do the comparison. That said, for most people the Slant will give less irritation since it is easier to master and use. The AC doesn't inherently irritate but is much more difficult to master and you will get more nics and irritation until you learn how to use it. The learning curve of the AC is much longer than the Slant.

In my experience it is the Feather AC. I actually got my first shave with a DE today that felt as smooth as the AC gives me, and that was with a Red Personna in a Fatboy set to 5. We'll see if the smoothness lasts as long.

I used to have the AC, and I still have the 39c, which I use if I'm in a hurry.

In the DE world, the slant is king. When I was a DE shaver, no other razor gave me a smoother shave. I never had an irritation problem with the slant. On the contrary, it is the razor tat taught me proper technique.

The AC is a completely different beast. It takes a hundred times more care than shaving with the slant, and chances are, you will get cut anyway (you get cut just by looking at it!). I used it for two weeks, and had enough. (too many cuts, too much irritation). It ended on BST.

Hope this helps.
