Fat Handled Tech and Feather Blade

If one is purely interested in a close, comfortable shave, leaving your face perfectly smooth, this combination is it. Put away your adjustables, and your Rings, and Twist To Opens (so long Red Tip and your 1934 Aristocrat), so long Bostonian and New Deluxe (Sorry Luc, yours would have to get chucked too). If you put aesthetics and mechanical wonders aside, I don't see how you beat the Double Edge combination of a Fat Handled Tech and a Feather Blade.

Agreed. An easy to handle, light and small-headed razor combined with a very sharp blade. In my case, though, I use the regular tech.

I've tended to follow some unstated rule that the older the razor the more forgiving the blade should be, but the other day I tried a Feather in a Big Fellow and was surprised at the quality of that shave, only 2 passes.

I've been saying this for a while now. It is very difficult to beat this combo on a purely performance basis. If all you want is a great shave, you can save a lot of money and have a great experience with a fat handle Tech and a Feather :thumbup1:

I agree! The first time I did it, it was both my first feather shave and my first vintage Gillette shave, and let me tell you-it felt like angels were rubbing their wings on my face.

"Put away..."??? This may be going a bit too far...

...on the other hand, I do want that kind of shave!

Okay, Darjeeling, I'm going to try the Fat Handled Tech with Feather Blade tomorrow. And I'll be anxiously waiting for the angel chorus.....

I shave with Feather and Ball End Tech.... One of the best combo I have tried.
I have a brand new, never used Star that I may try with the Feather, probably with my new Rooney 1/1 it will be a great shave.

Darjeeling Express, you are probably right, but you miss the point entirely.

The idea is to try as many crazy combinations as you can, throwing results and logic to the wayside, while meticulously and endlessly chronicling your results on B&B.

Why, as we speak I am getting ready to present my latest masterpiece of post-shave-report prose, A 1966 Slim Adjustable head J-B welded onto a ball handle, loaded with Gillette Blue Blades recovered from the void behind a vintage medicine cabinet, re-honed with a dremel tool and my home-made sharpening jig: The third pass was shrieking agony, but the ergonomics were even better than with my InjectaFatboy/custom Ginsu blade combo!

I almost fired a stream of espresso out of my nose reading that! That would have given "shrieking agony" a whole new meaning.

I am in agreement 100%. I came across this combination back in February, and have never looked back. In my case it's a Canadian "1932" Fat Handled Tech and a Feather. For me it is the perfect handle, the perfect weight, the perfect angle, matched with the perfect blade. In fact, it's the only DE combo I've found that allows me to go ATG on my neck without pain.

Viva la Tech!

The pathetic thing is I'm not sure if you actually did this or not.

#5 today, couple of nicks, but I was wailing with the d. thing.

I have picked up a few Techs (and a Star) almost by accident, and would have to agree. I'm really impressed with how they shave when loaded with a proper blade, such as an Iridium or NOS Gillette. Just picked up a few Feathers from a very generous member here on B&B, so will have to give the combo a try. Sounds promising!

Oddly, I prefer the ball handle to the fat handled Tech for some reason.

I can credit Darjeeling for getting me to try the Star; it is a super shaver.

If I was ever stuck on a desert island and could only have one razor, it would be the Tech.

Okay Darjeeling, I tried the Fat Handled Tech and a new Feather Blade this evening. Even gave it an extra challenge by waiting til late in the day, so I had over a day and a half growth to throw at it. Well....you're right, it was at least one of the easiest, smoothest, closest shaves ever! A Fat Handled Tech and Feather Blade is an awesome combination!

Now, even as good as it is, I'm not quite ready to put away the Adjustables, and certainly not the Red Tip, for the same reason that the very nice steak dinner I had last week didn't make me give up lobster, shrimp, jambalaya, and fajitas. I will still look forward to the variety and excitement of new razors and blades and combinations of both. Okay, I know you were kidding. But I did hear the angel singing when I got done shaving! At least I thought I did at first, but it was just SWMBO in the other room...

Thanks for the razor/blade combination tip.
