Face Moisturizer vs. ASB???? Help?

Hey can't decide if this post should go here or in the "aftershave"???? Feel free to move it around. Anyhoo, can anyone tell me if and what is the difference between a plain ol' facial moisturizer, such as Neutrogena oil-free moisturizer, and an aftershave balm, such Nivea sensitive skin? I have been using the Neutrogena post splash but was wondering if using the nivea would be better. Thanks in advance.

They're generally interchangeable terms. L'Occitane's ASB are pretty much full on chunky face moisturisers with no real AS soothing properites IMO, others are more like liquid creams. Balms like Speick contain witch hazel and other soothing ingredients.

I find Nivea does nothing for me at all beyond moisturise (poorly). It's all trial error and preference.

i have been using nivea aftershave as a face moisturizer and I really like it sometimes i just throw it on just to get moisture even when not shaving.

thanks guys. I figured they were the same or at least close to. When looking at the ing. list they are both mostly water and glycerin.

The quick and dirty answer is that an aftershave is intended to promote post-shave healing. A moisturizer is geared toward anti-aging by moisturizing the skin which helps prevent wrinkles and creases. However, there is some overlap and it's not a hard and fast rule. Some products combine the two purposes together.

I haven't used the Neutrogena oil-free moisturizer, but have used the Neutrogena razor defence post shave lotion (is that what you meant?), and it is excellent. As is the Nivea sensitive asb, but I prefer the Neutrogena slightly. The Nivea works very well, but leaves my face looking oily and shiny.

Skin care products exist on a continuum - there's no hard and fast definitions or breakpoints between the different products. Different formulations have different strengths (moisturizing vs healing vs cooling vs acne control vs SPF etc etc etc), and everything after that is marketing.
