face lathering without a brush

received a sample of truefitt hill cream. it said it can be used without a brush.
read a few threads on brushless creams.

question...how do i do that? do i just put the cream in my hand and rub on my face until the cream is all over...is it supposed to form a thick lather along the lines of meringue or whipped cream...should it be like smeared butter...is there a thread or tutorial around that explains how to do a lather with only the hand? i tried it once and got smeared butter and then just took a brush to it because it didn't seem right.

I think every cream can be used brushless, but why would you? I'm not being a smart alec, just wondering. For me, whipping up the lather and applying it with a brush is one of the best things about wet shaving. And especially with such a quality cream.
