Face lathered this week

I was on vacation in Atlantic City this week so I used the opportunity to practice my face lathering technique. I got a stick of DR Harris and went to town. My travel brush is a huge Parker silvertip - which is, no doubt, not the perfect brush for face lathering as it has very little backbone. After the first day I realized I would need a fair amount of soap on my face before I went to the brush. This brush holds so much water that using only three shakes leaves soap flying around the room. On the other hand, using less water in the brush meant I had to add more half way through making lather.

I'm a scuttle user, so the cold brush on the second lather was a bit of an unhappy surprise. I did manage to survive as I'm a man's man. I don't know that I'm a convert yet, but the week went well and traveling with the stick rather than cream and a cup was a big advantage.

After my last shave of the week I used the hair drier on my brush (not the hot setting) and that seemed to work well. I don't remember reading about that so I hope I didn't violate any brush protocols.

:thumbup1: I didn't like it the first few times because especially with a hard soap like Harris it's uncomfortable rubbing it on the face to get enough soap. I soak the tip in a pill bottle top to make it easy.

It took me a few weeks to get used to face lathering. I found a smaller knot brush worked best for me. I start with it well shaken out and dip the tips as I build the lather to get the desired consistency. Give it a little time before you decide it is not for you.

I face lathered for most of the 45 years I have been shaving. Only bowl lathered after joining B&B and getting "hooked" on all of the different ways to shave.
