Exploring even more blades.

Hello everyone!

I am going to explore more blade verities soon, and as we all know well there are TONS of doff makes and models and materials.

My current loves when it comes to blades in order of fondness...

Feather blacks

Astra SP

Super Max

Shark Platnum

Derby

These are pretty awesome blades, Feather being my fave of course.

I have found some brands some I have heard of and so on, others I havent heard of and they sound goofy but am wondering if they are worth a good try. I would like to know your opinions on the blades I will list below, they will help in my decision to try them...likely will get a bag full of samplers or some thing like that.

Treet Platnum Super Stainless and Classic

Trig Silver Edge

Red Personna Israeli

Kai Stainlesss Steel

PolSilver Super Iridium

Bolzano Superinox

Can't wait to see the differing opinions here, also can't wait to try some oddball blades lol.

I haven't tried any on your lower list except for the Personna Red Israel, which I found to be better than average for sharpness and longevity; about the same performance I get from Astra blades.

The Polsilver is the only blade on your list that I have yet to try, but of the others, Bolzano and Kai both are far and away at the top of the heap, with the Kai being given the slight advantage. Both resulted in stellar shaves every time they came into the rotation. Red Personnas always gave good results. Treet Platinums were ok, but not really worth buying again. The Treet Classics and Trig Silver edge are no longer allowed the privilege of being loaded into ANY of my DEs, as I have never successfully completed a single pass with either blade. Of course, YMMV, and all that! Happy testing!

Thanks for the insight americanarmsdealer and SevereWX, I'll have to add Bolzano and Kai to my to get list. I have only heard of Treet through those who use them in those razors that look like garden trows...GEM's thats it lol for a sec forgot the name. Treet and Trig's had a name that said not to get excited, Treet and the logo reminds me oddly of Halloween and pumpkins...I dunno why it is silly. Personna Reds I hear a lot about as well, nice info thanks :) Hoping I get a little more out of the thread, seems it is tending to get buried lol.

Kais are ridiculous expensive but are really good, maybe the best blade I ever used. Polsilver Super Iridiums are very good too. Another one I'd add to your list of blades to try are Treet Durasharp Carbons - They feel nearly identical to Feathers to me and are Dirt Cheap. YMMV of Course. Gillette Silver Blue are pretty awesome as well. I also like Lord Platinums and Silver Stars (both made in Egypt). Hope this helps.

I tried the Red Personna and the PolSilver. I use the Feather as my chosen blade, and my mind has yet to be changed.

Very nice those are added to my list! Yeah Feathers are my #1 Choice too, nothing has yet to match them. Kai sounds promising, it is pretty much my search for the best of the best thoguh half of that decision is made by personal choice not blade reputation. Scott changed my "To Try" lineup a little bit, others deducted. Man this is not a popular post lol, oh well all good glad to be getting suggestions and likely be my last reply less I get more so as to make room for more cool posts. Thanks a lot all, this has helped a great deal in much of the guess work. :)

From your lower list, I have only tried the red personna blades. They are very similar to Astra SP's and I really like them. I too would like to try the Polsilver SI's, but I still have so many blades to go through before I will purchase some. Another brand I would consider is Gillette 7 o'clock blacks. They are very sharp and super smooth, more so than Astra and the red Personna's. Not as sharp as Feather's but the smoothness of the balcks more than makes up for it. So far those are my favorite razors.

The only blade I've tried from your second list is Polsilver SI. I just took delivery of 100 which was a blind buy based on the good things I hear about them. Had my first shave with one today in a Gillette Tech using Speick shave stick and I must say I was not disappointed! They are very sharp (certainly up there with feathers) but also quite smooth, I managed a DFS with 2 passes and not really needing a touch up.

My favourites are:
Gillette Platinum Rubie
Astra SP
Polsilver SI
Voskhod
(in that order)
