While waiting for my Rooney 1/1 replacement from Vintage Blades, I have been experimenting with a VDH boar brush from wally world and Cremo Cream I got from WCS.
VDH Boar Brush impressions:
- Functionally adequate
- Had to do several shampoos and comb outs before it stopped its initial shedding
- Does not keep lather as well as badger hair
- Very poor heat retention
- Smells like wet dog.
It does the job, but lacks most of the qualities that make lathering with a brush a great experience.
Cremo Cream: I got this to use brushless based off the positive reviews I read on the forums for it. I followed the directions and was not pleased with the results at all.
- Blade dragging
- Irritation
- Didn't even get a passable shave with it... had to stop halfway throuh shave and call it quits.
- If it works for you great! But it didn't work for me at all.
