Everyday Green Tea

Hi Gents,

I usually drink gunpowder tea; it's an inexpensive, tasty cup that I really enjoy. Since my last pound of it is about to run out, are there any recommendations that you guys would give? I've been perusing Upton Tea's senchas but would be open to anything.

Since you already shop with Uptons, I would recommend their Liu An Gui Pian China green. It's a good everyday green tea that is a little vegetal, slightly sweet with full and round flavors. I wouldn't go to Uptons for Sencha though, there are plenty of other vendors with much better value. Hibiki-an, Chado Tea House, Rishi etc.

I may be stepping out too far here, but I have been purchasing green tea from SpecialTeas for several years. They have a great price on Lung Ching, which is my everyday. I love their Chun Mee because it has a cinnimon flavor that is unique. I also get Yunnan Green Imperial Silver Tips because it has a very soothing effect on my troublesome digestive tract. If someone else disagrees, then they win because I stopped searching long ago for a better value. These have worked for me.

You are in NYC. Visit an Asian grocery store of any nationality and you'll most likely find a selection of green teas to peruse, and the prices should be surprisingly cheap.

Hello all. This is my first post. I'm in New York and have been drinking Royal King decaf green tea for at least 5 years. I buy it at a Korean market on Long Island for $2.99 (100 bags). You can get it at any of the Asian markets in Flushing for a dollar or two more. It tastes great and doesn't keep me up all night. I stay up all night for other reasons!

Thanks guys- I'm probably going to stick with Upton, just probably not with their Sencha.

I've been to a bunch of Asian supermarkets, but haven't found anything I really enjoy yet- but there are a bunch in Flushing I need to check out.
