What's new

Ever thought of trying straight shaving?

Consider this a “PIF teaser”……It might not be a bad idea to check out the Straight Razor sub forum over the next few days.

:001_cool:

I definitely have. I thought I was satisfied with my DE but now I'm getting an itch that definitely has to be scratched.

I did try it for a while, years ago. But shaving isn't fun for me, and I'm lazy. I eventually quit.

To anyone thinking about it but is afraid, don't be afraid. It's like anything else. Learn the basics from the tutorials first, then take it slow, and pay attention. But in this case, pay attention not just when the blade is on your skin, but at all times when the blade is in your hand.

I've want to give it a try sometime, but to be honest, I'm afraid of slicing my face lol! Plus then I'd have to buy strops etc.

Seriously thinking about buying a razor from whipped dog, and then getting a strop in a couple weeks, depending on what I think of it after a few weekend shaves.

I've been getting the itch to try out a straight. I bought one on the B/S/T that needed a rescale and restore but have been dragging my feet at doing it. I'm currently watching a couple Sextoblades on the bay to test the waters with since I don't have a strop or know how to hone.

I took up DE shaving very recently to train myself for the ultimate goal of going to a straight razor.

I am shortly going to be giving it a go. I have had a whipped dog sight unseen deal with poor mans strop for a while now and have just been reading and watching up on stropping. Proper blade maintenance is about my biggest concern going into it. Well that and the vast money pit I can see it turning into!

I've thought about it quite a bit lately. What's involved in the basic start up kit as far as just the razor maintenance?

:shifty: off to the straight forum.... :a12:

(j/k, just got into straights myself. :biggrin1:) Looking forward to happily watching the fun.

Thinking about it. However, I may **** off the purists by going to the Feathers' system. The equipment, cost and time associated with traditional straight shaving just puts me off.

Still traditional straight shaving has just the biggest "cool" factor compared to other forms of shaving.

C'mon in guys, the water's warm, the beer's cold and the chicks are hot.

A recent study by the CDC and a team of medical researchers from Johns Hopkins determined that the average life expectancy of a straight shaver is slightly longer than that of anyone else in their neighborhood and that some of the other side benefits include:

Better posture
Clearer skin
A sense of irony
Rakish good looks sometimes underscored with a mysterious scar
An ability to ignore aggressive flirtation from beautiful women out of slavish devotion to the love of their life and mother of their children.
Greater lung capacity
Understanding of mysterious and ancient texts
A puzzling ability to recognize names and faces of complete strangers they've never met or seen before.
A supple, languid way of moving
Obsessiveness over small things such as whether an edge was sharpened on a belgian, japanese or man-made stone or film.
An aversion to cant
Fear of clowns and nuns (oops, sorry, that's just me)
Preference for dogs over cats
An avuncular humor
Ability to outrun angry bears and fathers
Inability to outrun mothers and daughters
Great teeth

I have no money for this new venture, so I must live vicariously through the posts of others...

I will get into it eventually.
